This event features some battles few people ever thought they'd see happen in Canada. It Lives In The North reps Bizz, Scott Jackson and Redz attended the Gordonridge Community Holiday Dinner on December 18th to celebrate the Christmas season. Gordonridge is a neighbourhood in Scarborough near the Midland and Danforth area that is greatly supported by a group called Youth Becoming Something (YBS), who initiated the dinner.

While adults and children of all ages ate their free dinner, prepared by dedicated volunteers from the area, Scott Jackson entertained the crowd with his jaw-dropping beatbox skills. Once dinner concluded, several draws awarded a few lucky kids new toys provided by It Lives In The North. The energy was on high as Jackson continued his showmanship and gathered more than a dozen children at the front of the gymnasium for a dance competition. The winners received candy-filled gift baskets provided by Sweet Treats. It Lives In The North t-shirts were also given out to lucky diners who found promotional flyers attached to the bottom of their plates.

Shout out to Mike Opoku and Redz for coordinating It Lives In The North's participation in this event. We hope this will be the first of many community events we can be a part of.

The Project: Partnering inner-city youth with top industry professionals, allowing each young filmmaker to bring some of Toronto's most amazing untold stories to the big screen.

The Goal: To introduce a new perspective on the realities of inner-city living through film and give young people from Toronto's underserved neighbourhoods industry mentorship, resources and a chance to tell their stories.

The Result: The City Life Film Project. Inner-city youth working with top industry mentors to produce 3 world class short films that add to the mosaic of Toronto's cultural identity.

To my knowledge, this is Big Lean's first music video. The song has a gritty, yet clever, street-wise tone and the video follows a similar path. L&G Films created the visuals in and around Parma Court and caught cameos from Belly and Boi 1da to add some powerful co-signs. Not that Lean is resting on any kind of co-sign. The nicest coming out of Parma Court since Young Tony (aka Hush), Lean recently released a street album entitled I'm Here.

(Toronto, Canada) – It's a new day in fashion. Concrete Guerilla Clothing and It Lives In The North introduce a bold new, limited edition garment, just in time for Spring. The partnership comes as both rising brands embark on a cross Canada tour from Toronto to Vancouver. Owners Duxx (Concrete Guerilla) and Jonathon “Bizz” Brown (Co-owner of It Lives In The North) are visiting 11 cities in the month of April alongside Slaughterhouse, Pharoahe Monch and Peter Jackson.

The collaboration marks a new era for both brands. This isn't the first time they've travelled across Canada, as CGC recently made waves on the Tech N9ne Tour and It Lives In The North cemented its nation-wide presence in August 2009 on the Busta Rhymes Tour and February 2009 on the Kardinal Offishall tour. However, this is the first collaborative effort between the two companies.

“Concrete Guerilla makes clothes for life in the concrete jungle and is about creating your own destiny,” says Duxx.

“At my company, we stood up and said 'Hip Hop Ain't Dead It Lives In The North,'" says Jonathon "Bizz" Brown. "And with this limited edition piece, people across Canada have a way to represent both ideas. This is a groundbreaking moment for our companies.”

The 2010 Limited Edition print features a raging guerilla lurking near a street sign reading ''Hip Hop Ain't Dead It Lives In The North” and will be offered in black/white and white/red at each stop of the tour which includes Toronto, Cornwall, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Penticton, Nelson, Whistler & Vancouver.

“This is creativity, patriotism, unity and the hustler’s mentality all in one,” says Duxx.

If you were downtown Toronto the day before Christmas Eve, you probably noticed quite a commotion outside Eaton Centre (the city's largest tourist attraction). That's because Scott Jackson (one of Canada's best beatboxers) joined Bizz, Ceazar, Caddy, Photo Nick and a few others to hand raise awareness about Itlivesinthenorth.com and our movement.

They gave out 1000 flyers, 100 mixtapes, 30 kids t-shirts and a whole lot of love. With Scott Jackson manning the beats, almost two dozen passers-by stopped to grab the other mic and try their hand at rapping. From Unknown Mizery to Adam Bomb to random kids and fans, the response was incredible. For five hours, the street team proved that hip hop can be manifested at will in the north.

Monday October 26th marked the release of Hip Hop Ain't Dead It Lives In The North - The Mixtape Vol 2. Kleen Media graciously invited Jonathon "Bizz" Brown to co-host Mashup Mondays at Rockwood. Between Kap'n Kirk of 4 Corners, Lissa Monet and DJ Dames Nellas, the music was oh-so-on-point. Around 200 mixtapes were given out and everyone went home satisfied, if not smashed!
